Approved KA2: Empowering Youth in Uganda through EVS
Empowering Youth in Uganda through EVS is a KA2 - Capacity Building project, financed by Erasmus +. The project consists of 12 main activities, 2 transnational meetings and 2 mobility of youth workers activities.
Activity 1: Creation of Project Management Tools and Settlement of the Project.
Activity 2: Transnational Meeting in Kampala, Uganda (4th Month)
The transnational meeting will be based on round table discussions and study visits to the Ugandan organization's sites to see how the situation is and what can be useful to implement with the involvement of EVS volunteers. Every organization will involve one participant who will be responsible for dealing with the recruitment of volunteers as well as educational materials. We will create a work plan for the project, deliverables and check the measurables during the project.
Activity 3: Development of Educational Material and E-learning Module (3th – 6th Month)
Activity 4: E-learning module (6th – 8th Month)
The participants of Training Course will be invited to follow an e-learning course on empowerment, youth inclusion and tackling with poverty. The e-course will cover the following themes: reasons and effects of disadvantaged, inclusion challenges for youth, youth empowerment, inclusive youth work and tackling with poverty.
Activity 5: Implementation of Training Course in Kampala, Uganda
The training course will be Training of Trainers and it will be based on non-formal education methodology and will be implemented with 16 participants, 2 trainer and 2 support people (20 people) for 8 days.
Specific objectives of the ToT on Empowerment of Young People :
1) To strengthen the understanding of empowerment aspects in the field of inclusion and its challenges
2) To create strategies on youth work context to improve the quality of youth services provided for young people to increase the inclusiveness and comprehensiveness of youth work
3) To explore the role of youth work in inclusion strategies on educational services
4) To create and implement local activities focused on youth empowerment
5) To create partnerships for future cooperation in the field of youth empowerment
Activity 6: Implementation of Local Workshops parallel to EVS ( 9th – 13th Month )
After the implementation of residential training and the selection of EVS volunteers, the participants will be asked to deliver training before the departure of the EVS volunteers for Uganda.
Activity 7: Online Mentoring Module (9th – 18th Month)
The coaching module will be implemented parallel to the implementation of training for EVS volunteers and local people. The matching between mentor and person will be based on geography, not in expertise and experience. The participants will be coached and coaching by and to their peers.
Activity 8: European Voluntary Service in Kampala, Uganda (9th – 18th month)
The EVS volunteers will involve in the activities implemented in Uganda for 3 months in the following sequence :
- 2 Spanish, 2 Romanian and 4 Turkish Volunteers (9th – 12th month)
- 2 Spanish, 2 Romanian and 4 Turkish Volunteers (12th – 15th month)
- 2 Spanish, 2 Romanian and 4 Turkish Volunteers (15th – 18th month)
During their stay in EVS, they will participate and implement actions in Uganda and they will receive mentoring from the participants of Training of Trainers and the mentors in Uganda.
Activity 9: Youth Exchange in Diyarbakır, Turkey (19th Month of the project)
Youth exchange will be based on non-formal education methodology and will be implemented with 24 participants (5 participants +1 leader per country) for 8 days and the facilitators will be selected among the EVS volunteers from each country (1 per each) for the implementation of the youth exchange. The event will be focused on the empowerment of young people under poverty and increasing their capabilities related to the implementation of the European project. The participants will gain new and deepened knowledge related to empowerment, inclusion, and poverty.
Specific Objective and Follow-up:
- To deepen the knowledge of participants in the issues of Poverty
- To increase the awareness among Ugandan Youth about poverty and its effects
- To strengthen educational competencies to design empowerment of young people on educational activities
- To design applicable and needs-based educational programmes for local young people
Activity 10: Transnational Meeting for Creation of Follow-up Plan and Finalising the Educational Materials in Diyarbakır, Turkey (22nd month of the project)

The EVS Program in Uganda:
1. The participant will be aware of the poverty issues and living under poverty and they will be able to build capacity in order to deal with poverty and work with the people under poverty.
2. Offers the Participant a unique opportunity to become the driving force in his/her own development, and through his/her own example to empower others in becoming creators in their own development.
3. Challenges the Participant to get out of his/her comfort zone and move the barriers of fear; a necessary process to releasing new potentials and being able to fearlessly move into “the unknown” and their knowledge about Africa.
4. Is open to anyone who wishes to activate and expand already existing capacity, knowledge, skills, and talents and use these in the service of creating development.
5. Humanizes the Participant and enables him/her to think and act in solidarity with fellow human beings - both in the program and for the rest of his/her life.
6. Facilitates the Participant to become a leader who is able to work with cultural diversity, capable of organizing, leading and instigating change.
7. Allows the Participant to see him/herself as one actor among many in a movement where profound development takes place with effect and impact in many peoples’ lives.
8. Trains the Participant extensively and broadly, with action and speed, and with the view to secure high quality and preparedness of spirit, mind, and body.
9. Promotes peace and understanding through its people to people values.
